My son and I ran into a consignment shop a couple weeks ago. He recently got his own apartment, and we were looking for some needed items. We didn’t have any luck finding household items, but I found a very sweet little book with Scripture promises for women. It was brand new! It still had the cardboard sleeve around the back of the soft covered book. I loved it! Every day I was reading it, claiming the scripture for my own.
After about a week of having the book I noticed that there was writing on the inside cover. It really caught my attention; it looked a lot like my hand writing. When I looked more closely, it was my handwriting!
Several years ago, I gave it to one of the women in the church who was going through an extremely hard time. I tell you, I had to giggle. She just called and wanted to meet for coffee next week. (I wonder if I should tuck the Scripture promises in a gift bag and return it to her? Mmm…) No, I am enjoying them too much, and I wouldn’t want to embarrass her.
The enemy has a way of making our efforts feel worthless. Some gifts are accepted freely, others may not speak into their lives. But then, they call you again, and want to meet. Go and meet them, never be afraid to love, never be afraid to give good gifts, and never be afraid to speak kind authentic words of encouragement. Don’t allow the enemy a foot hold when you are doing kind things. They may not accept the gift, but they will see Jesus in the giver.
James 1:17-18 “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”
