What do you do when your life is turned upside down, never to be the same again? What do you do when a fun camping trip with your husband and grandsons ends in a massive heart attack and the death of your husband?

In Life Lessons in Times of Grief, I’ve shared my heart and my story. But it wasn’t supposed to be this way. John and I were supposed to grow old together. To sleep late and drink our coffee on the front porch in the mornings. To pack our camper and travel to new exciting places. To take that long dreamed of trip to Alaska. To be with our loved ones and celebrate birthdays, holidays, graduations, and milestone events. To cheer on our grandsons at their sporting events. To do life together.

When grief comes into our lives, it’s like someone flipped off the light switch leaving us in darkness and pain. But Jesus Christ is with us. We are never alone. His presence in our lives can bring light into the darkest places of grief and suffering.

It’s His presence in my life that keeps my moving forward. It’s His presence in my life that helps me want to choose light and life not pain and darkness. It’s His presence in my life that helps me face my fears. It’s His presence in my life that gives me strength for each day. For today. For tomorrow. For the next month, and the next—leaning on Jesus.
